Are you looking for accommodation for the London 2012 Olympics?

Not sure where to start? If you want to avoid London prices and crowds, here are four reasons why Banbury is a great choice for your Olympic accommodation:
- Superb transport links mean it can be quicker to get to a London destination from Banbury than from another part of London. Train journey now takes under one hour
- Banbury is very close to Oxford, Warwick and the Cotswolds which makes it a top holiday destination in its own right: beautiful, historic and packed with culture and entertainment.
- Convenient for Dorney Lake where the Olympic rowing and kayak events will be held.
- Much better prices than London!
Balance the thrills of the Olympic stadium and the buzz of London with a base in Banbury where you can relax and enjoy other great tourist attractions. Blenheim Palace, Warwick Castle, Royal Leamington Spa, Sulgrave Manor, Upton House just to name a few
Only 100kms from London, Banbury has excellent connections to the capital. Two companies in Oxford provide a 24-hour, frequent, direct coach service – the Oxford Tube and the Oxford Bus Company - and there is a regular direct train service from Banbury to London Marylebone. There are also direct coach services from Oxford to London Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted Airports. During the Olympics, special transport links to the Olympic venues will be in place.
Banbury is the ideal location for Olympic accommodation if you have tickets for the rowing and kayak events which will be at Dorney Lake, near Windsor. This venue is only 100kms away, with train services from Banbury and coach and train services from Oxford. Rowing is a very British sport with strong Oxfordshire links because of the annual Oxford Cambridge Boat Race. It has been one of our best Olympic events, producing much-loved multi-medallists such as Sir Steven Redgrave.
Coventry is also close by and the City of Coventry Stadium is hosting twelve football matches during the Olympic fortnight including the women's bronze medal match. Coventry is approximately 50km from Banbury
Similarly, Banbury is a good location for visitors who will be watching Olympic sailing events at the Weymouth and Portland venues, but who also want easy access to London. Trains from Banbury to Weymouth require one change of train at Winchester
Great experiences during the Olympic fortnight
Here is a flavour of the experiences you can enjoy in Banbury during the Olympic fortnight:
- Stunning sightseeing in Oxford, including Oxford colleges and world-class museums. There is a very regular train service into Oxford which only takes 15 – 20 minutes
- Spectacular Warwick with the world-famous Warwick Castle where they hold events each and every day
- The beautiful Cotswold towns just 35 minutes drive away – Stratford-upon-Avon; Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh, Bourton-on-the-Water, Burford, Chipping Camden
- Banbury is a short drive away from some of the country's most famous buildings – Blenheim Palace, Chastleton House, Broughton Castle, Sulgrave Manor, Upton House
- And the shadowy presence of Inspector Morse and Lewis behind the glorious architecture in Oxford.
- We have produced wonderfully informative circular walks of Banbury, Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford which delve into all the most interesting aspects of each town with many photographs
Banbury is always a wonderful place to stay and is especially beautiful in summer. All in all it's hard to think of a better option for accommodation during the Olympics.
