An Access statement is a mandatory part of our quality assessment by English Quality in Tourism who have awarded us Four Stars. An Access Statement is a written, clear and accurate description of the services and facilities that we currently offer. Thus guests are able to make an informed decision as to whether these services and facilities meet their particular access needs.

Access Statement For Hanwell House

Introduction

With an emphasis on comfort and quality, Jan and Nigel welcome you to Hanwell House b&b, a modern three-storey home, boasting character and charm, where we offer one double bedroom with en-suite facilities, one double bedded room with its own private bathroom and one room which can either be a twin room or the beds can be linked together to form a super kingsize bed with en-suite facilities, all offering bed and breakfast facilities, quietly situated approximately one and a half miles to the north of Banbury town centre.

Pre-Arrival

  • There is a bus stop five minutes walk from our front gate and the buses run every hour on the half hour into the bus station in the centre of Banbury
  • The mainline train station is 10 minutes away by car
  • There are several local taxi companies and we can make a taxi booking for you
  • We have a very comprehensive Registration Form for you to complete
  • We have an easy to follow Breakfast Menu selection for you to choose from
  • Hospitality tray with kettle, bone china mugs, glasses, spoons, selection of tea/coffee, hot chocolate, sugar, biscuits, milk and bottled water

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

  • Prior to your arrival we will either e-mail or send you detailed parking directions to our private parking area. Also available from our website – www.hanwellhouse.com – go to the “Find Us” section and we have given clear details. At the bottom of that page you will also find a click link to download a map giving specific directions on how to reach our private parking area which is situated at the rear of the house and has to be accessed via a side road
  • We have two garages with white painted doors and the letters ‘HH’ (Hanwell House) marking them very clearly
  • The path to our front door is to the right of the garages. A black wrought ion gate gives access to the front of Hanwell House
  • The surfaces are level and firm and made of concrete and paving slabs which are all very easy to walk on
  • We can assist guests with their luggage
  • Banbury town centre is about 35 minutes walk from Hanwell House and would take about 10 minutes in the car

Main Entrance & Reception

  • The front door opens inwards directly from the footpath and there is a very slight lip over the threshold
  • The front door is always locked but we do have a door bell attached to the outside of the door frame
  • The door is 83 cm wide
  • On entry into our home there is a wide and spacious hallway
  • We have short pile carpet throughout the whole house

Public Areas – General (Internal)

  • All doors on the ground floor are 86 cm wide and we have a downstairs cloakroom large enough for a wheelchair
  • The house is very light and airy and we have floor lamps on the ground floor and first floor with timer switches set until 1.00 a.m. – these can be altered if guests are arriving back late at night
  • The breakfast room is on the ground floor overlooking the back garden
  • There are thirteen stairs to the first floor landing where the three double bedrooms are situated
  • The stairs are 18 cm high, 24 cm deep and 85 cm wide and gradually curve to the right finishing at 90º to the bottom stair

Public Areas – WC

  • Two double bedrooms are completely en-suite and the third bedroom has its own private bathroom across the landing
  • There is a large WC and cloakroom available on the ground floor

Restaurant / Dining Room, Bar & Lounges, Take Away & Cafe

    • Breakfast is served in the breakfast room on the Ground Floor. • There are no steps and the room overlooks the back garden • We have one large dining room table with seating for six guests • Our dining room chairs have wooden backs, padded seats but do not have arms • We have a music system in the breakfast room and guests can select various radio stations during breakfast

Laundry

  • There is a laundry room on the first floor with tumble drier should you need clothes drying
  • There is an iron and ironing board in the laundry room for guests to use

Shop

  • There is a local Co-op store about five minutes walk from Hanwell House in Hanwell Square which sells newspapers, magazines etc., and a wide selection of other products

  • There is a private bathroom across the landing for the sole use of Bedroom Three (see details below)
  • Two extra large navy blue fluffy dressing gowns are supplied in the wardrobe for the use of guests when moving between the bedroom and bathroom

  • We have an enclosed garden where residents can sit with patio area, lawn and flower beds with a small fish pond
  • There is a large area of sports ground opposite the front of the house where guests can walk

Additional Information

  • Hanwell House has easy walking access to Hanwell Square where you will find the Hanwell Arms; the Co-op; Fish and Chip Shop; Chinese Takeaway; Subway; Ladbrokes; Hairdressers and Beauty Salon and an Estate Agent
  • Mobile telephone reception is generally very good
  • We have WiFi access in the house and a security code will be given to guests on request
  • We are able to use the front door, back door and lounge patio doors in the need of evacuation.
  • If you require more assistance for evacuating please notify us on arrival and we will make sure you are evacuated safely e.g. hearing or sight impairment
  • We have a bell on the table in the main hall and another bell on the table on the first floor landing for guests to use should they need to attract our attention. We also have a wind up torch on the first floor landing in case of an emergency during the night
  • We are a strictly non-smoking establishment
